First used for the political system of ancient Athens where free male citizens voted in assemblies.

There is no Ancient Abrayi word or concept for “democracy.”
The pure picture is Malkut YAH (מַלְכוּת יָהּ) — “Kingdom of YAH” — where YAH alone is King and His people obey His voice (Shemot 19:5-6; Devarim 17:14-20; Yeshayahu 9:6-7). Leaders are raised up by YAH, not elected by majority vote. It is never “rule by the people” — it is total submission to the King of kings.

Direct tie to Athens, Greece — birthplace of democracy, where assemblies voted under the patronage of pagan gods (Athena, Zeus). Citizens swore oaths to false gods before voting.
Roman Republic copied the system with pagan senate rituals.
